Manuel has more than 30 years of professional experience as a lawyer.

He was a partner at the Gómez-Acebo & Pombo and Bermúdez de Castro-Lobato law firms, where he advised domestic and international companies in various sectors for ordinary corporate and contractual activity as well as for M&A operations and project financing.

He has extensive experience advising athletes and sports entities.

Manuel also has management experience, having served as managing director of Enjoy TV, an agency for the marketing of audiovisual rights in the sports sector, and executive director of the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation.

In the academic sphere, he is academic director of the Master of Sports Law and Management at ISDE – Club Estudiantes Baloncesto.

Main areas of experience

In the field of commercial law, he has been a member and director of advisory teams for numerous acquisition, merger, and restructuring operations, both in Spain and internationally, in various sectors (food, construction, financial, funeral, logistics, and storage).

In the financial sphere, among other operations, he was responsible for designing the cash-flow guarantees and arranging and drafting clauses for a loan agreement incorporating cash-flow guarantees into the financing of the construction of a large cogeneration plant in Puertollano (Ciudad Real, Spain). He has also managed loan agreements in various financing operations to construct and expand electricity generation plants in Spain.

He has advised various operators of generation plants powered by renewable energies in Spain.

In the sports sector, he was a legal adviser to the Spanish Olympic Committee on general issues related to its activity as well as to the Spanish Olympic Delegations in their participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010, London 2012, Sochi 2014, and Rio de Janeiro 2016. He also advised the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation in the negotiation, drafting, and signing of the Event Hosting Agreement for the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships (Santander, Spain).

He was a member of the legal advising team for the candidacies of the City of Madrid to organise and host the 2016 and 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He also advised the Royal Spanish Hockey Federation in the appeal process against the International Hockey Federation in relation to the Spanish Women’s Team’s participation at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

He has advised the Nike Group on the negotiation, drafting, and signing of sponsorship agreements with athletes, sports clubs, and sports federations, as well as the agency Enjoy TV on the negotiation, drafting, and signing of licensing and sub-licensing agreements for audiovisual rights for major international sporting events.
